Music Review: Good boy Bad boy

Tue May 8, 2007, 9:52 PM
Good boy bad boy is a remarkably thought provoking album. It makes me think why producers throw away some perfectly good currency on an album that could sound worse only if they replace the drummer with a farting orangutan!

Mull over the title track, with lyrics like 'ek jhappi mere yaar di, ek jhappi mere pyaar di, kaleje ko thandak pahunchaati, jannat dikhaati hai!' you know you need to give this track a skip.

In track two, 'Meri Aawargi', we get a taste of Himani Kapoor's talent. She is one of the better bequests on this album. On the whole the song is bhangra meets shehenai meets Himesh's nasal notes.

'Aashiquana aalam hai' makes me wanna hit the stop button. But no, somehow I still speculate that the 'hit jodi' of Himesh and Hashmi will not let me down. I persuade myself to endure the entire album.

'Dard-e-Dil' is nothing but dhikchik dhikchik meets sufi rock. Zubeen Garg's voice is not exploited; he could have done better if the arrangements were fresher. These are the same old torturous tunes we have already heard in ten other songs by the same composer.

Enter DJ A_Myth and DJ Suketu's versions of the above four farces. These are the numbers which make you move (a bit). Then you stop to think, 'Hey doesn't that sound like…. No it couldn't… aah yes it does. *Smashes headphones, burns the CD player and prays that no one saw him swaying*'

This, BTW, is supposedly a youth hearted comedy. Sadly that is not very evident from the soundtrack. I bet Weird Al singing opera would sound better. At least that would be laughable, this is plain bad.

Stepp'd in so far that, should I wade no more,
Returning were as tedious as go o'er:
Strange things I have in head, that will to hand;
Which must be acted ere they may be scann'd

Sometimes in the dead of the night I mesmerize my soul.
Sights and visions, prophecies and horror they all come in one.
